HOW A GAME WORKS

Nine innings, about ten minutes. The game plays itself until it matters, then hands you the ball.

1

Pick a club

Manage one of 30 teams, the Bankers, the Dread Sox, the Snubs, and play a season against the rest.

2

Set your lineup

Nine batters, your pitchers, and a 20-card dugout deck, all under a salary cap.

3

Call the big moments

About ten times a game you're pulled in. Play your cards, watch the pitch land.

4

Earn packs

Win and you open a pack. Build the club, finish the binder, chase the Gold.

EVERY ERA. EVERY FINISH.

Same player, a different card. Pull them in '52 cream, '75 two-tone, '87 wood grain, or the shiny ones with tiny print runs. When a series is gone, it's gone.

★ TRUE STORY

BIRD STRIKE

MARCH 24, 2001 · TUCSON, ARIZ.

During a spring training game, a dove flew across home plate just as a fastball arrived. The ball struck the bird in midair. The umpire ruled it "no pitch," and the at-bat went on as if nothing had happened.
